The young and talented artists, Bongane Luhanga, Archie Matsetela and Lebogang Metsileng left audiences begging for some more after performing their new play at Olive Tree Theatre during the presentation day at Yarona Building recently. The new play is called Distance Faces was not formally launched. Ntshieng Mokgoro, writer and founder of Olive Tree Theatre Productions said she is passionate about empowering women in the arts industry.
“Arts have no colour. After visiting the Soweto Theatre I told myself that we have to get a theatre in Alexandra. We needed a theatre in Alexandra because there are people who want to express themselves in arts”, Mokgoro said Her initiatives include schools so that learners could get the knowledge about arts and also engage political issues such as race and transformation.
Kerryn Irvin, producer and partner of the Olive Tree Theatre said, “Each human being in Alexandra would benefit from the theatre. There are talented and committed artists in Alexandra,” said Irvin.
